If you dream of turning your passion for design, animation, multimedia technologies or video games into a career, you need to visit the Image Processing and Multimedia Technology Center (CITM-UPC), the place where creative and technological talent takes shape.

At our Center, we organise various activities specifically designed for you: the future student. On this page, you can learn about everything we have to offer you, and take the first step towards your professional future with us!

Why study at CITM

At CITM, you learn to transform your creativity into real projects in animation, multimedia, and video games. Our degrees, backed by the technological rigor of UPC, provide you with a strong technical foundation and a high level of specialization so you can enter the job market with your own portfolio and a strong competitive advantage.

5 reasons to choose CITM

Record employability and job quality

1. Record employability and job quality

We train you to work in the creative digital industries. Employment data from our degrees show that studying in technological and creative fields linked to UPC is a reliable investment in your future.

  • Fast job placement. A large majority of graduates enter the job market in less than one year, with rates above the average for university studies in Catalonia.
  • Quality employment. More than 80% of graduates in the digital field secure stable contracts, achieving more solid and stable employment than the average university graduate.
  • Work aligned with your vocation. Most graduates in animation, multimedia, and video games build their careers in sectors directly related to their studies.

UPC's technological rigor

2. UPC's technological rigor

We are a center affiliated with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), a benchmark in engineering and technology, and this is reflected in our curricula and teaching approach.

  • Strong technical and creative foundation. We train professionals capable of understanding both technology and visual language. In the Video Games degrees, you develop your own game engines and program complex systems, while in Animation and Digital Art studies we emphasize visual design, character creation, and the construction of unique visual worlds.
  • State-of-the-art technology. We work with specialized labs, high-performance workstations, Wacom Cintiq tablets, cutting-edge software, and virtual and mixed reality devices.
  • Expertise in multimedia and UX. We are a pioneering center in multimedia studies within UPC and offer spaces focused on user experience design and evaluation.

Direct connection with the digital industry

3. Direct connection with the digital industry

Collaboration with companies and participation in industry events are part of CITM's DNA: projects, internships, and activities that connect the classroom with the professional world.

  • Internships in leading companies. We collaborate with studios and companies in video games, animation, multimedia, and immersive technologies to offer educational internship agreements.
  • Real projects. Throughout the degree, you work on real cases and challenges proposed by companies, allowing you to build a strong portfolio and connect with potential employers.
  • Industry-connected faculty. We combine UPC PhD faculty with active professionals who bring the latest industry trends and methodologies into the classroom.
  • Industry visibility and networking. You will participate in festivals, fairs, and digital culture events, where you can present your projects and build professional connections.

Future-oriented curricula

4. Future-oriented curricula

Our degrees evolve year after year to incorporate new technologies and digital tools in line with emerging professional profiles.

  • New creative technologies. We include content related to photogrammetry, generative tools, and emerging technologies applied to visual design and production.
  • Progressive specialization. You start with a strong generalist foundation and gradually specialize as you advance through the degree. Year by year, you will discover which areas interest you most and where you want to focus your profile.
  • International outlook: 100% English-taught option. The Bachelor's Degree in Video Game Design and Development is also offered entirely in English in Barcelona's 22@ district, preparing you for an international career in a global industry.

A community that supports you

5. A community that supports you

At CITM, you will experience a demanding yet close-knit university environment, with academic support and a campus life connected to digital culture.

  • Mentoring from day one. You will have a dedicated advisor to guide you through your academic and professional journey.
  • Open classroom and peer mentoring. Senior students provide support in programming, mathematics, and other key subjects, creating a highly collaborative community.
  • University life. In Terrassa, the second university city in Catalonia, you will enjoy a vibrant campus full of cultural and social activities that complement your academic education.

Open Days

Throughout the year, we organise several Open Days, when you can find out all the details of our official degrees, and visit the facilities at our centre. During these information sessions, you will be able to talk to professors and academic coordinators, and most importantly, you will hear about the experiences of current students, who will give you a first-hand perspective on what the day-to-day life of studying at the CITM is like.

These events are aimed at students in higher secondary education and advanced vocational training cycles and their families, as well as teachers, tutors and advisers from secondary schools.

See from the month of January all the dates of the Open Days of the next course.

Video game, animation and multimedia workshops

At the CITM, we organise practical workshops aimed at students in higher secondary education, so that they can experience the type of projects that students at our Center carry out at first hand. In interactive sessions, the participants will be able to create their first video game, their first 3D animation, design their own character or get introduced in digital interface prototyping, using the tools used by the best professionals in the sector.

This is a unique opportunity to learn about the creative and technological processes behind learning experiences at the CITM.

The workshops last approximately 2 hours and are free of charge.

These are the workshops we offer:

Create your first video game scenario with Unity

Find out how video game environments are created and edited, and make them interactive to them using Unity, the most widely used program in the industry.

Introduction to 3D animation

Get to grips with 3D animation by creating a charismatic character, working with the program used by professional animation studios. You'll also learn about the various departments that work to bring a film or video game to fruition.

Introduction to character design for animation and video games

Learn about the process involved in creating a character and create your own, while finding out how animation studios work learning about their sources of inspiration.

Program your first 2D video game

Create a 2D game with Unity, one of the most widely used game engines in the industry! You'll learn the basic concepts of programming you need to start creating your own games. You'll develop a simple game from scratch, step by step, with no need for any prior knowledge.

Digital Prototyping

Create a prototype with Figma, one of the leading tools for digital interface prototyping, with no programming skills required. Turn creative ideas into interactive and functional models while learning key concepts such as UX (user experience) and UI (user interface), essential in human-centered digital transformation processes.

The workshops are subject to the availability of schedule and spaces in the center.
